Founded in 2004 by Artistic Director Laura Chiuve and Assistant Director Jenny Ostrowski, Artistry in Motion focuses on performance and advanced technique. Original pieces, choreographed for the company, include an eclectic mix of jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet and hip hop styles. The company performs its season at the Prairie Lakes Theater, and is showcased in special performances throughout the year at local venues and around the state.
AiM2, the junior company, was started in the Fall of 2007 and their debut performance was in the 2007 Winter Spectacular.
The Des Plaines School of Dance is home to two exciting dance companies; the award-winning Artistry in Motion, currently in its 6th season and continuing to grow in depth and in number, and the new Rhythm in Motion Tap Company. These companies are designed for the dedicated dancer, who also loves to perform. Company members are continually learning new choreography to be performed within its 2 show season at Prairie Lakes Theatre: The Winter Spectacular in December and the Spring Showcase in March. Dancers also perform and have become a highlight at various community events throughout the year. Company members compete and attend dance conventions and workshops, to further their dance training. All Des Plaines Performance Dance Companies promote a deep appreciation of dance as they provide an environment for learning. They offer a venue for students to understand and develop performance techniques, while experiencing various dance styles. The Artistry in Motion Dance Company is divided in to four sub-divisions: AiM Senior, AiM Junior, AiM2 Senior, and AiM2 Junior. Dancers range from Grades 2-12. Company members are required to attend Thursday technique class (one for AiM, one for AiM2) and their own division's rehearsal. Members must also be currently enrolled in Ballet and Jazz technique classes with the Des Plaines School of Dance. New members must audition for acceptance and placement from Laura Chiuve, Artistic Director, and Cecilia Ferguson-Bell, Co-director.
